Where’s the Black in the Union Jack?Author: Stafford, Roy Published: Riddlesden, Keighley, 2000 Source: http://www.itpmag.demon.co.uk [25.09.2003]. Originally published in: Film Reader 2 - British Cinema. Publisher: itp (in the picture). Media Education Magazine |
Abstract Although Britain today is a multi-ethnic society, black people and other ethnic minorities are still under-represented in contemporary British films. The number of black characters in British films and TV productions has increased, but the experience of 'being black in Britain' is not necessarily touched upon, according to Roy Stafford. He complains that, instead, widespread stereotypical views on certain ethnic groups are often confirmed rather than undermined in film portrayals. |
