The Changing Nature and Uses of Media Literacy.Author: Livingstone, Sonia Published: London, 2003 Source: http://www.lse.ac.uk [09-27-2004] |
Abstract The concept of media literacy is changing dramatically from its traditional focus on print and audiovisual media to encompass the Internet and other new media. Hence, it has to be defined in a new and broader way. Sonia Livingston examines the four component model of media literacy (access, analysis, evaluation and creation of messages in a variety of contexts) for its applicabiltiy to the internet and addresses the implications of the concept for academics and policy makers. She promotes a democratic and critical approach to media literacy, one that repositions media-users from passive recipients to active participants in society. |
