Abstract

Seppo Tella analyses and points out "subtle differences between some of the basic concepts related to what used to be called rather unanimously 'distance education'". The term describes ways of teaching and learning "taking place outside of the institutionalised educational systems". According to Tella, different versions of distance education are "constantly gaining ground as they are becoming located more centrally in the mainstream educational systems".
