Transcultural Performance in Classroom Learning.Author: Axtmann, Ann Published: Westport, Connecticut & London, 2002 Source: Gerd Bräuer (Ed.): Body and Language. Intercultural Learning Through Drama. Publisher: Ablex Publishing ISB-Number: 1-56750-671-2 |
Abstract Second language acquisition can be successfully stimulated by "transcultural performance" techniques. In her article, Ann Axtmann suggests six exercises which include collaborative efforts to define "culture" in both linguistic and visual ways but also sensory and somatic experiences of time and space which help to reinforce a social experience of culture. In addition to acquiring second language skills students explore multiple perspectives and mediate their views of themselves and others, thus, they undergo a complex process of cultural transformation. |
