Speech of the President of the United States of America, 16 January 1991: Bush Announces Allied Air Strikes Against Iraq.Author: Bush, George Published: Bonn, 1991 Source: US-Information Service 21.1.1991. |
Abstract This speech of George Bush is a good example of rhetoric persuasion strategies in politics. With this speech George Bush announces the start of military attacks against Iraq. He justifies the air raids with Iraq's invasion of Kuwait and as the last measure after diplomatic efforts and economic pressure failed in getting Saddam Hussein to withdraw from Kuwait. Bush also stresses the accordance of his politics with United Nations resolutions and his alliance with 28 nations. His rhetoric accentuates the necessity of taking action as he enumerates the damages done by Iraq "while the world waited". |
